Joining the Twitter Revolution
I'm finally jumping on the Twitter bandwagon. Actually, I've been sending tweets (yeah, learning the lingo too.) If you're not familiar with Twitter, it is considered "micro-blogging" where each message is limited to 140 characters - a perfect length to be done via SMS or instant messenger.
SO WHY WOULD YOU CARE ABOUT WHAT I'M DOING RIGHT NOW? I have no idea. but there's always this kid in Egypt, which may come in handy someday. Also, now that more friends don't want to actually talk to me and would rather text, it's a great way to broadcast information at once. Now the trick is to get everyone else using it.
Twitter isn't just good for telling everyone I'm heading out for coffee (which is often).
Set Appointments in Google Calendar - I'm not the best at putting anything in my calendar, but if I just send a text, it can magically appear on Google Calendar. Yeah, I know that Google Calendar already has an SMS function, but if I'm already sending something to Twitter, then why remember another shortcode?
Set Reminders in Remember the Milk - Remember the Milk is a ToDo list application. Sometimes I think writing it down on a piece of paper might be easier, but I'm tech geeky, so probably not.
Get the News - it seems all the major news providers have some sort of twitter feed that gives the headlines throughout the day.
Traffic updates - Here's an interesting idea. When you're sitting in traffic, you can share your misery with the others that are in the same jam you're in. Or, more positively, you can warn other travelers on the same road that they're about to get stuck.
Gas Mileage Tracker - Everytime you fill up, tweet a message to yourself of your mileage and how much you paid to fill the tank. This site will track that and give you an estimation of when you're gas bill will surpass your mortgage payment. (well, not the mortgage payment, but you get the idea)
Track Eating Habits - So I'm really bad at this, but if you absolutely need someone to hold you accountable that you chose the cheesesteak pizza slice with fries instead of the garden salad with the light vinagrette, try this site out. The diary will track what you eat, and you can also enter the amount of calories for each item.
So get out there and start Tweeting! Oh, and if you want to follow me, here's a link:
